European Video Competition Final – Bremen
The winners of the MARLISCO Video Competition met in Bremen!
As part of the MARLISCO Project, aimed at raising awareness about the problem of marine litter, the winners of the “MARLISCO European Video Competition,” held simultaneously in 14 European countries, gathered in Bremen for a certificate ceremony on May 18-19, 2014.
On the first day, the young people bonded with each other through games played with animators and a historical city tour in Bremen's Bürgerpark. On the second day, they visited Universum, Bremen's science center. Here, they had the opportunity to learn about interesting inventions and scientific studies. Following their visit to Universum, they attended the certificate ceremony held on European Maritime Day 2014. 80 young people from 14 different European countries spent two unforgettable days in Bremen.
European youth received their certificates for the MARLISCO European Video Competition at the 2014 Maritime Days.
At the European Maritime Days ceremony, 13 young people received their certificates from Maria Damanaki, representative of DG MARE (Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries), for their outstanding achievement in the MARLISCO European Video Competition on marine litter. The young people had won the "Best Video Award" in their own countries. A video collage compiled from the best videos from 14 countries was shown to a group of 1000 participants at the conference, and the young people received great applause. The 13 winning young people and their teams, a total of 80 students, came to Bremen and this conference as part of their prize. During their visit, the young people had the opportunity to meet each other and share their experiences on an intercultural level.
With a total of 380 videos from Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Slovenia, Ireland, Romania, Germany, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, and Türkiye, more than 2,000 students from 118 schools across Europe actively participated.
In Bremen, our country was represented by Fatih Sağlambilen and Yunus Emre Akbaş, students from Ordu Başöğretmen Anadolu High School, who were the Turkish winners of the MARLISCO European Video Competition.
“Everything was wonderful!”
Fatih Sağlambilen, who said he had spent the best days of his life, stated, “These were moments I will never forget. Having 14 countries together was truly a great experience for me; everything was wonderful in terms of both cultural interaction and the friendships that were formed.”
“The trip to Bremen was a great experience for me!”
Yunus Emre Akbaş, who described his trip to Bremen as a great experience, said, “We were together with peers from 14 different countries, the events organized for us made it easier for us to socialize with each other, and we had the opportunity to get to know each other's cultures.” Akbaş also stated that he was very impressed by the complete absence of litter in the streets of Bremen and the presence of bicycle paths everywhere, adding that he would never forget his days in Bremen.
