The first of the awards, which were started to be given by the Turkish Marine Research Foundation to encourage research in the Marmara Sea, were presented on the evening of January 8th. The awards, given to experts who have conducted or are conducting research in the field of Marine Sciences, especially on the Marmara Sea, were presented for the first time this year within the scope of the Marmara Sea 2022 Symposium, which was held with Türkiye İş Bankası as the main sponsor. The awards, which aim to increase interest in marine research, provide motivation, and create awareness about the protection of the seas, are considered important for young scientists. Research awards were presented to their recipients at a ceremony held on the evening of January 8th.

The award committee considered the researchers' citation index numbers, their contributions to the development of marine sciences in Turkey, particularly in the Marmara Sea, their projects in the field of marine sciences, and the number of students they have trained as key indicators for the Marmara Sea awards.

The aim of these awards, presented by TÜDAV, is to contribute to the training of new marine scientists who will explore Turkey's seas, with the possibility of other institutions and organizations working in this field also giving awards over time.
