Gökçeada Marine Park Underwater Snorkel Photography Competition

The Gökçeada Marine Park Underwater Snorkel Photography Competition, originally planned for August 27, 2016, but postponed due to strong northerly winds, was held on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Turkey's first and only marine park located in Gökçeada.
The competition, organized by Sadettin Aşkın, a photographer and member of the TÜDAV General Assembly from the island, Dr. Onur Gönülal, a faculty member at Istanbul University, M. İdil Öz, a lecturer at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, and Gökçe Erünsal, the Press and Public Relations Manager of Gökçeada Municipality, saw 11 participants due to the date change.
The photographs, competing in two separate categories – wide-angle and close-up (macro) – were judged by a jury chaired by photographer Saygun Dura.
In the Wide Angle category, Tuncel YILMAZ came first, Harun Fırat POLAT second, and Mustafa EREN third. In the Close-Up (Macro) category, Tuncel YILMAZ won first place and Eda GÜNGÖR second. Additionally, Oğuz YILMAZ received the TÜDAV special award, and Mustafa EREN received the Municipality special award.
The awards ceremony, held at Kaleköy Valentina Cafe on the same day, saw the winners receive their prizes from Gökçeada Deputy Mayor Ertuğrul ESER, TÜDAV Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arda M. TONAY, and TÜDAV General Assembly member Prof. Dr. Hüseyin ÖZTÜRK.

The competition is organized to highlight the underwater riches and marine biodiversity of Gökçeada and the TÜDAV Underwater Marine Park.
The competition is open to all amateur and professional underwater photographers. All underwater cameras, including GoPro (and similar), can be used. Photos must be taken at the highest JPEG resolution allowed by the camera.
Each competitor is responsible for their own safety; snorkeling companions may be used if desired. The competition area is Yıldızkoyu; however, if weather conditions are unsuitable on the day of the competition, the organizing committee may designate another area. Transfers will be provided by municipal vehicles.
All photographs taken during the competition will be archived by TÜDAV and Gökçeada Municipality and may be used in future publications for promotional and scientific purposes, with attribution. For
safety
, a Ministry of Health ambulance will be on standby on the shore throughout the competition, and a safety boat will be stationed offshore (to provide transportation to the shore in case of cramps or fatigue).
Competition pre-registrations: onurgonulal@gmail.comRegistration can be done via email until August 25, 2016. On August 27, the day of the competition, final registrations will be made at the TÜDAV stand in Yıldız Bay between 09:00 and 10:00. Camera cards will be formatted under the supervision of an official, and an object and competitor number, as stated by the official, will be taken as the first shot.
The competition will be held in 2 categories: Wide Angle and Close-up (Macro). 3 prizes will be awarded in each category. In addition, a total of 8 prizes will be distributed, including the TÜDAV Special Award and the Gökçeada Municipality Special Award
. Prizes include plaques for all winners and surprise gifts from Gökçeada Municipality. Additionally, the following prizes will be awarded:
Wide Angle 1st Prize: Innovasub professional diving fins + I-Pix smartphone underwater housing
from Imbat Underwater Imaging Center; 2nd Prize: Innovasub gloves + Çelik Surf School – 1-hour beginner's windsurfing lesson; 3rd Prize: Gökçeada Diving Center scuba introductory dive.

The competition duration is set at 2 hours. Participants may exit the water earlier if they wish. The cards from the machines will be handed to the attendant at the table, and all images will be transferred to a file opened in the participant's name before being returned.
At the end of the allotted time, all participants will send the numbers of two images they have chosen from each category to the application email address.
The jury will convene and make their evaluations on the evening of August 27th, the day of the competition. The awards ceremony for the determined winners will take place at 9 PM in Kuzu Limanı, after the concert organized as part of the Gökçeada Municipality festival.
